Employees may have multiple employee record numbers. The first job would be the lowest in the sequence.
Brand new state employees (that have not worked for the university corporation) would be assigned an employee record number of 0. Multiple active appointments at the same time may increment the employee record number in sequential order.
"Employment record numbers (ERNs), in combination with a person's ID, uniquely identify a person’s job data records. The system distinguishes between a person’s organizational instances by using a new ERN when you create a new instance."
