Salary Grade identifies an alternate range of a job classification when the class has more than one assigned salary range for nonacademic classifications. If there is no alternate range, the range code is 0.[1]

For academic classifications, salary grad typically denotes rank (e.g. Professor).[1]

"APPLICATION OF RANGE CODES for Nonacademic Classifications.

The range code identifies an alternate range of a classification when the class has more than one assigned salary range. If there is no alternate range, the range code is 0.

  1. Range Code 1, RANGE A. This range reflects the normal salary of the class.
  2. Range Code 2, RANGE B. Some classifications have a second normal salary rate for a given classification (e.g. class code 7169), sometimes denoting different minimum qualifications.
  3. 10/12 PAY PLAN. Those classes eligible for the 10/12 Pay Plan are identified in the salary schedule. The 10/12 pay plan information is denoted by either separate range codes within a class or separate class codes (see item #5 below). Range Code 8, RANGE C. This range shall have the same criteria as Range Code 1, Range A with the salary for ten months' work paid in twelve equal installments (10/12 Pay Plan). Range Code 9, RANGE D. This range shall have the same criteria as Range Code 2, Range B with the salary for ten months' work paid in twelve equal installments (10/12 Pay Plan).
  4. 11/12 Pay Plan. Those classes eligible for the 11/12 Pay Plan are identified in the salary schedule. The 11/12 pay plan information is denoted by either separate range codes within a class or separate class codes (see item #5 below). Range Code 6, RANGE E. This range shall have the same criteria as Range Code 1, Range A with the salary for eleven months' work paid in twelve equal installments (11/12 Pay Plan). Range Code 7, RANGE F. This range shall have the same criteria as Range Code 2, Range B with the salary for eleven months' work paid in twelve equal installments (11/12 Pay Plan).
  5. SKILL LEVELS. Some classifications have multiple salary ranges based upon skill levels. For example, the Information Technology classes use Range Code 1, for the Foundation skill level, Range Code 2, for the Career skill level, and Range Code 3, for the Expert skill level. 10/12 and 11/12 pay plans are in separate class codes. Classifications with range codes based upon skill level may have differing overtime eligibility status. Specific range code eligibility is identified in the respective bargaining unit's salary schedule listing.
