Dependent Family Size

Dependent Family Size identifies the size of an applicant's family, as entered on the CSU application for admission, for an applicant who determines themself to be a dependent for financial aid purposes.

Dependent Family Size includes the dependent applicant, their parent(s), and other children or dependents who receive more than half their support from the dependent applicant's parents.

Business Rules

Code 99 is used if applicant did not enter a response.

"Family size as entered on the CSU application for admission by an applicant who determines him/herself to be a dependent for financial aid purposes. In determining family size, the dependent applicant should include him/herself, his/her parents, and other children or dependents who receive more than half their support from the dependent applicant’s parents. To determine dependence or independence for financial aid purposes, an applicant is considered independent if any one of the following applies: The applicant: (a) is 24 years or older; (b) is a graduate student; (c) is married or has dependents; (d) is an orphan/ward of the court; or (e) is a veteran of the U.S. armed services. If none of the factors applies, the applicant is considered dependent."[1]
