This help guide provides an overview of using the "Search" functionality available in Prompt dropdowns to select values in the prompt.

Using the "Search" Function in Prompts

Locating the Search Function

The Search… option at the bottom of many prompt drop-down menus also allows you to search for values or select one or more values to include or exclude from your report.

Note: Depending on how many values are available for a given prompt, the “Search…” option may also appear as “More/Search…

To use the Search… option on a prompt, click on any prompt drop-down menu.

Then, click the Search… option at the bottom of the drop-down menu.

Navigating the Select Values Interface

The Select Values dialog will open, which contains a search feature and list of selections in the Available section on the left and a Selected section on the right that will contain the values that you end up selecting from the left.

Using the Search Criteria

To search for a value from the Available section list, first choose the type of search you wish to use from the dropdown next to Name.

Search types include:

  • Starts
  • Contains
  • Ends
  • Is LIKE (pattern match)

Then, enter your search criteria and Search.

  1. Enter your search criteria
  2. Note the Match Case checkbox option. If you aren’t sure of the case of the values, you may want to ensure this checkbox is unchecked. For example, if you enter “first generation” and the value is “First Generation” then the system will not find a match if the Match Case checkbox is checked.
  3. Click Search.

A list of search results will appear that meet the search criteria you entered.

Selecting Values from the Available Results

To select a single value from the search results:

  1. Click on the value on the left from the search results
  2. Click on the right arrow > button to move terms to the Selected section.

To select a range of consecutive values from the search results:

  1. Hold the “Shift” key on your keyboard while clicking on the first value in the range. Continue to hold the “Shift” key to click the last value in the consecutive range you wish to include.
  2. Then, click on the right arrow > button to move all of the highlighted selections from the search results section to the Selected section.

To select multiple non-consecutive values from the search results:

  1. Hold down the “Ctrl” key (on PC) or “Command” key (on MAC) as you click on each value you would like to select.
  2. Then, click on the right arrow > button to move all of the highlighted selections from the search results section to the Selected section.

Your selected values will now appear in the Selected section.

To select all of the values in the Available section on the left, you can use the double right arrows >> to move all values to the Selected section.

To remove one or more values from the Selected section, you select the value(s) on the right using the same steps described above and then click the left arrow < button to move the terms you do not want back to the Available section on the left.

To remove all of the values from the Selected section, you can use the double left arrows <<.

Once all of the values you want included in your report appear in the Selected section on the right, click the OK button.

Then, click the Apply button that corresponds with your prompts to reload the dashboard with your selected filters applied..
