A Weighted Average is an average resulting from the multiplication of each component by a factor or "weight" reflecting the size of each component.
Weighted Averages are especially important when totals and subtotals are provided in a report.

Examples
For example, to calculate the units taken in progress weighted average for each college at CSUMB, the units taken in progress average would be calculated and weighted by the size (number of students) of each college. This ensures that the totals and subtotals accurately provide aggregates that take into account the size of the different colleges.
