Headcount may refer to count of enrolled students or to headcount of students to which degrees were awarded for a particular reporting period (e.g. term or academic year). Headcount may also refer to various employee groups such as faculty or staff.

When using a group breakdown on headcount data, a student could be counted more than once--i.e. in each sub-grouping for which they are categorized. For example, a student can have more than one student attribute and would be counted in each of the student attributes to which they are tagged).

Moreover, when examining Headcount data by academic year, a student may be counted more than once in a Group Breakdown if they were categorized in different groups in different terms. For example, a student could be counted in the Headcount of two different colleges in an academic year if they changed majors).
