New vs. Continuing differentiates students who are new to CSUMB versus those that are continuing at CSUMB.

Examples
"New" is assigned to any student who is attending CSUMB for the first time (first-time freshman, transfer students, and first-time graduate students), is transitory, or is an early entrant student.
"Continuing" students are all others and are defined as students who had units attempted at the CSUMB campus during the prior term of a regular session.
